Second Kiev International Film Festival - Closing

June 1, 2010 at the National Palace of Arts "Ukraine" the festive closing ceremony of the Second Kiev International Film Festival was held, initiated and organized by the famous Ukrainian actor Bogdan Stupka.
Traditionally, the gala evening began with the closing film forum press conference, where the organizers and jury members of the two competition programs summed up the results of the KIFF, announced the decision of the two membership jury of competition programs, and shared their impressions of the viewed pictures and future plans. The journalists' questions were answered by: the General Director KIFF Boris Abramov, Chairman of Jury Otar Iosseliani, the member of the jury KIFF Vadim Perelman, the member of the jury of a special contest for the film critics "Mirror" Elena Stishova and the representative of the general sponsor KIFF company - an international brand Nemiroff - Natalia Konovalova (The Director of Corporate Communications and Public Relations Department).
At 5:30 p.m. the festive ceremony continued on the red carpet on which were notable members of the jury and KIFF guests: the winner at Cannes, Venice and Berlin film festivals Otar Iosseliani, the director Vadim Perelman (the USA), Ukrainian painter and art director Sergei Yakutovich; significant Turkish director Aydin Cyman, authoritative critics Stishova Elena (Russia) and Sergei Rachlin (the USA), director Stanislav Govorukhin, actress Olga Kurylenko and many others.
The red carpet ceremony was followed by the festive closing ceremonyof the KIFF-2010. Eminent jury members and KIFF 2010 guests went up to the main country’s stage to hand in the top honours to actors and director-winners of the Film Forum. The favours of the first competition programs have been such pictures: "Votrex” (Duburys, Lithuania), which received awards for the best camerawork and the leading female role, "Dark House" (Poland) – the Best Directing and script. With the award for the Best Actor was posthumously honoured Yuriy Stepanov ("Shoot immediately!", Ukraine); with the prize for the Best supporting female role was awarded actress Eileen Nicholas, who played in the film "Bomber". The festive evening was finished by showing the closing festival picture- Turkish film "Bogeyman", the director of which, Atalay Tashdiken will take home two awards - for the Best supporting male role and Grand Prix of the festival. Star presenters of the ceremony – film and theatre actor, KIFF guest Ostap Stupka and charming Marysia Gorobets were responsible for the festive mood of the public at the opening ceremony.

Can a boy of nine be a big brother, a father, a mother and a luminary all at once? For young Ayse, the answer is yes. In fact, as far as she’s concerned, her big brother Ahmet is afraid of nothing at all. But the truth is, Ahmet is a child too; and he too has his fears. Equally, it’s impossible for him to know everything. Their father Kazim has gone off to marry another woman and abandoned the two children to their fate with Hasan, their elderly and half-crippled grandfather. But in spite of everything, brother and sister never seem to lose hope. This simple tale of a village and the relationship between a brother and sister in the village portrays one of the grittier realities of Anatolia.

It is autumn night in October 1978. Edward Srodon, a zootechnician, makes an accidental stopover in a farmhouse of Dziabas family in the remote area of Bieszczady Mountains. He stays for the night. The initial distrust between the guest and his hosts is quickly dispelled with moonshine and turns into a warm camaraderie and even friendship.
A plan of making a joint business arises, as well as passion and lust, which lead to surprising and tragic consequences…
It is winter day in February 1982. It’s Martial Law in Poland. An investigating team of People’s Militia (police) is visiting the crime scene. Lieutenant Mroz is trying to solve the multiple murder case from four years ago. Soon he is to discover that uncovering the truth is immaterial for his superiors, as they are trying to hide a different crime. He is also about to face a dilemma whether to advance his professional career or to stay true to his values.

The protagonist Smirnov is unlucky bank employee. Coming back home, he sees his wife embracing with the lover. Furthermore, the bank director ordered Smirnov to collect all the debts from five incorrigible debtors till the New Year’s Day.
Nevertheless, the debtors have their own plans for the New Year’s Day, which exclude paying for debts. The last hope is the widow of dead debtor, who is crazy, strange and passionate. She does not refuse to pay, but not today. In order to convince the woman to pay depts as soon as possible, Smirnov is involved in a hard dispute, which provokes duel and ends with love at last.
